Pinterest, An Addictive Hobby...

Let's start by saying that being laid up for 5 weeks after a back surgery could drive anyone into an insane asylum. However, collecting all and anything that I could review, read or make in my bed became a key priority beforehand. My friend Carrie turned me on to Pinterest "A Virtual Pinboard", which at first made me shudder. How could I possibly sit and curate pictures onto boards day in and day out. Well, it became a real addiction both as hobby and creative endeavor. For those of you that don't know, Pinterest is a site which allows you to curate beautiful things from the Web. You can categorize boards, like a mood board and then find people that share similar "pins" so you can grow your own boards. You can get started by going online to Pinterest and requesting an invite.

I still say that by doing this, it saved me from complete and utter boredom when I was laid up and now has become a really great hobby if you can call it that, but mostly it lets me spread my creativity.

For many of us (bloggers), creativity is really the core that drives us to write, post pictures or reach out to find others with similar interests. Sometimes this can be a daunting task given the infinite possibilities across the Web. On Pinterest, it brings that lens closer and the things that inspire you are just a couple clicks away. I love to create the boards, leave them and then come back again for inspiration. You can build a board with as many pins as you like and add other's pins to your boards.

I have found that thematically many of my boards tie back to fashion in some way. Building your own boards is also revealing in a lot of ways particularly as it relates to your own self and your likes or dislikes. There are no boundaries when you are creating and I think that is why I love doing this because it is an amazing exercise in self-expression.

Some of the categories I created on my boards for these pictures include titles such as "Fashion Illustrations", "For the Love of Drape", "Jewel Tones", "Fluid Lines", "Dream Closets", "Boyish Wonders", "Shoe Love", "Buttons", "Tulle"...and the list can go on and on.

JPK Paris75 Luxury Handbags...One of Every Color Please!

I'm obsessed. Truth is, I am obsessed with fashion all together. My latest loves are the JPK Paris75 handbags. Founded in 2007 by Parisian designer named Jean Pierre Klifa whose creative vision sparks chic, vibrant and fabulous accessories. In fact, my first attraction to these poppin' hot bags was because of all the beautiful colors.

For me, it is the perfect grab all bag over the weekend whether traveling or shopping. Any of these bags brighten up an outfit. I love grabbing one when I am wearing something neutral. The gold-tone hardware on the bags are lovely too.

Many of you may be familiar with his LoveSac Collection which comes in vibrant prints. These weekenders have great interior features with the option to purchase the main bag from S-XL. I love the Christmas Paisley Weekender which has a beautiful print like its namesake (right). I have bought some of these bags through Rue La La which is members-only so if you would like for me to invite you please send me your name and email address.

I am loving the accessories from pouches to iPad cover/cases. But probably my favorite bag is the classic Bucket Nylon which comes in an array of colors. I love the Hudson blue-71 which is like a gorgeous teal.

January 5th is Special!

I knew there was reason to celebrate January 5th, 2012 other than my birthday! Iris Apfel helped M.A.C to create their next color collection and it will be released tomorrow. The lipstick touts color from "Flamingo" to the "Party Parrot"! The highly pigmented eye shadows are glorious as well with colors like "Early Bird, Robin's Egg and Diamond Dove!" Love! And if that was not enough, preview the nail lacquer in "Toco Toucan!"

I am a M.A.C lover so this collection's release is a great surprise for my special day. And to Iris Apfel, you are truly a "rare bird" and I hope I have your fashion flair and courage to take risks for many birthdays to come! She is one cool lady!

J. Crew January 2012...At Last, At Last!

I must admit that I am a little biased because my birthday is January. The truth of the matter is that January is slim pickens for just about everything. The fashion magazines are as thin as envelopes and the retailers such as J. Crew are just getting ready to make the transitions to the next season in this case Spring. I know that I am not ready for Spring at least from a wardrobe perspective, but I love to see anything new. J. Crew's January 2012 catalog is posted online and I saw a pop of color, hurray!

So let's take a look. I've listed a few items that catch my eye both new or last set of pieces. I love the Biennial satchel in saddle. It is very classic, like a simple pump. This is the kind of bag you can carry from season to season. Paired with the Valentina pump, you have a beautiful look.

The Cece ballet flat is crafted in Italy. I love all the "custom colors" (fresh mango is my color choice). This ballet slipper seems to boast some extra comfort in the heal, a shock-absorbing sole and on the top of the toe.

I love the new Tillary handbag collection reminds me of classic Coach with the bucket and flap over bag. I love the bucket in dark poppy which is a color that crosses over well. I had a major poppy love so I am not sick of it yet!

Overall, the new items are lackluster. The color combinations seem confused between Spring and Fall/Winter. I do not like the floral print which comes in a skirt, (printed a-line in Ashbury print), perfect shirt and Jules dress. It is awful (in my opinion). It is vintage or trying to be vintage.

I loved the Miansai Nantucket bracelets which have a retro-inspired look with fishhook cast and a "military grade woven cord". My favorite was the red rope bracelet. This is one that I would leave on all of the time or hook on to one of the Tillary handbags!

The last item that really caught my eye was the Double-breasted Ivy blazer with a borrowed from the boys look, but more tailored with features such as the gold-crested buttons that make this one special.

I am sure I will come across some other items, but these were the first I either adored or wouldn't touch! I look forward to your reviews for January. Do you have a fav or worst out of the new items?

First of all, Happy Holidays to you all. I have appreciated you following me and I am looking to a wonderful New Year and with a little sparkle.

There is nothing better than to add some cheer than with a little bling. Having a special piece of sparkle be it a ring, a statement piece necklace or a fabulous bracelet is sure to make you smile and catch the attention of others.

One of my favorite jewelry designers is Ben Amun. Isaac Manevitz is the luxury jewelry designer and founder (the name is after his eldest son). He has quite an A-list following both fashion insiders and celebrities alike.

The piece above is the sapphire and crystal deco bracelet. I actually purchased this piece through Moda Operandi (membership-only pre-order of runway collection pieces). I have worn this piece twice now and literally have had five or six people ask me about it or say how stunning it is. It captures the light gorgeously.

I am also wishing for this pearl bracelet with crystal pin. Manavitz is able to capture delicately designed crystals, gems with a little vintage appeal. I look at these pieces and am transcended back in time, roaring 20's anyone? Love.

I purchased his sapphire sunburst earrings to pair with the bracelet above and they are also stunning. It can take a little black dress to a whole other level.

Whatever you love, wear it with passion and I hope whether you spend it quietly or dance the night away, have a wonderful and "sparkly" New Year. Cheers.

It has been awhile since my last post...so sorry. Like so many, have been wrapped up (no pun intended) with so many work projects. Doesn't November and December seem to roll on Fast Forward! It is hectic. I know you all must feel the same. I have to say though that so many of my favorite retailers have beautiful offerings for the holidays and their online sites are beautiful. I love the catalogs too, but would much prefer saving a tree since I do so much shopping online. J. Crew has come into December with a jingle and a fantastic color splash. Their Very Merry Gift Guide aims to please and I only wish I looked great with this beautiful yellow! The photography is just exquisite. The bright colors with snow white backgrounds throughout the calendar add an extra pop. If you have been paying attention, they've had fab sales including up to 30% off + free ship $150 over. This is great whether you have a small list or one that is growing! When I logged in tonight, I also got a note for free ship and free monogramming regardless of total! I love these touches. The monogramming is something that I have been taking advantage of lately. It is such a great personalization. I love ordering men's shirts oversized and adding the monogram - great alternative to sleepwear too!

I am loving all the Lulu Frost for J. Crew deco bangles. The tortoise is pretty much the only one that I do not have (note to self!). These would be lovely gifts for your fav girl's. And, who says personal gift giving is not allowed!

It is hard to get through J. Crew's site this holiday without self-gifting. My favorite purchase so far has been the Edie tote in flame which I bought through 30% off. It is absolutely gorgeous. I though initially it would be too thin, but it is quite roomy and feels amazing! Go ahead, splurge a little for yourself too! Do you have any items that you are wishing for soon?

I love, love, love the butter nail polish. In absolutely beautiful colors, you have to love one of the fall shades, exclusive to Nordstrom. It is a metallic green, which is a bit out there, but I like the edginess this line offers. And, I never leave the house without Clarins Hand & Nail Treatment cream. It is amazing and really does strengthen the nails and cuticles.

So if you want some fun shades for Halloween, these are great options and perfectly wearable to work. Cheers!

All Things Teal!

I hate to be trendy and even colors get trendy. Last Fall moss and Summer blazing coral...and I have officially fallen in love with teal. So much so, that my recent spends have had at least one item with this gorgeous shade. And what better to have than a bag boasting this fashionable little number. The Kate Spade New York "Knightsbridge Mod" - little Helena Shoulder Bag comes in the prettiest dark teal. And I might add that I am not a big fan of patent, but this glazed leather beauty has the richest shine.

But why stop there. I found this glorious color in J. Crew's wears as well. The Tippi sweater in viridian is closest to and I must say this has become one of my favorite weekend grabs. The soft merino wool make it an easy staple with Fall's cool winds blowing in.

And how about "Bogs" for the coming rains, in teal -- too, shiny teal to be specific! Love these, and who'd a thought that a rain boot could be so stylishly pretty!

And shoes, the DV by Dolce Vita Lucca Flat in teal are really a nice alternative to navy blue or even black. These comfy numbers are in a beautiful, darker teal.

And undergarments, of course! Love these Hanky Panky Signature Lace Briefs. These are so pretty and so comfortable! I love the retro style and they truly are "no-line" which make them even better.

And probably my absolute favorite teal number is Diane von Furstenberg's Genevieve Dress. In deep teal, this dress can really go from office to cocktail. I love the silk wrap and its right above the knee length give it just a him of sexy. Love.

And in case you were not worn out of this sumptuous color there is more! Sephora carried an exclusive OPI nail color called "Teal We Meet Again" and it is so gorgeous! This is one of those colors in my opinion that can replace my navy for awhile. It is like the fun cousin of teal...the zany mom! ;)

J. Crew's Kirtley Tote...Great City Bag!

Mind you, the 30% off already on sale made this bag all the more appealing, but when the Kirtley arrived, I fell in love. This is the kind of bag I'd take to New York walking through the city. I love the way it slouches, but in a really good way. The zippered top closure is great. It can go from subtly sleek to a fabulous cross-body bag. I agree with J. Crew
s description "as rugged as it is refined..." exactly.
It is a bit darker than the picture in "cobblestone".
I am certain it may make another mark-down so ladies, it is worth it!

Sephora Reveals...Allure's Best of Beauty!

For beauty junkies like myself, you thrive on "Best of Products"that are all beauty. I always like to check in on these lists to see how many are gracing and crowding my vanity!

Sephora has reported Allure's Best of Beauty Awards illustrating "the best and most innovative products of the year. That in itself is a pretty big shoe to fill, but they are all there, each with beautiful and interesting packaging which in my opinion can be the first thing that draws me to them.

I wanted to highlight just a few of these "innovative products" and why I love them:

1. I love Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. While I often use a liquid liner, I prefer the ease in application of this gel-based formula. It is easier to build the line and simple to correct. And the beauty of this formula is that it dries quickly so it is not smudging on your lid. It lasts ALL DAY! I would agree that it is pretty "water resistant" this one is on my "favorite's list" for sure.

2. Nar's blush is always on my number one product's list. If you loved the color "orgasm" you'll love "super orgasm" even better! Compared to its sister, it has a "gold glittery" boost to this shade that is pretty perfect for just about any skin-tone. In my opinion, this shade is pretty special and can be work during the day and layered further for an evening out. I keep this baby on my vanity an in my purse. And recently, I've been using two other shades for highlighting the upper cheekbone and above the eyes which really pops your eyes and cheeks. Two of the shades I would recommend for this include Nico and Albatross.

Nico has more of natural look and Albatross more of a gold shimmer which also goes day to night.

3. Nars Pro-Prime Multi-Protect Primer has a SPF of 30 (major bonus). Nars boasts the "antioxidant", "anti-stress" and "anti-pollution" which protects and smoothes. I just love how light it is on top of all of these benefits. With so many products encouraging primer before make-up, this product includes all the things you would want to have and it prepares the skin perfectly and quickly before application of makeup. The only negative is the size which I think they've reduced :( , but don't waste your time on the others!

4. Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture SPF 15 lipstick, need I say more! Rich, highly pigmented color for medium to full coverage. It touts YSL's "red, fuchsia, and orange" reinterpretation for a "tailor-made experience for each woman. I just love the formula that is packed with good things without the other chemicals which can be found in other lip products. My favorite colors include 20 Rouge Flame (cranberry red, blue undertones), 13 Le Orange (bright orange) which has been a hot color for summer and I'm taking it in to Fall! And I also love 28 Rose Boheme (pink plum) which is perfect for everyday wear. And like all YSL's product packaging, the beautiful gold-tone case is a beautiful piece for any handbag!

5. Last but not least, love Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pads. These little pads exfoliate with a self-tanner leaving your skin absolutely radiant. The "Alpha Beta Glow Pads" tan without the harmful UVA/UVB rays. There is also a healthy dose of Vitamin D which is known to benefit other vitamins and antioxidants found in this formula. Bonus: "Gentle enough for all skin-types, vegan and cruelty-free"!

There many reasons to love Eileen Fisher. The superficial reasons being that the colors are sumptuous and feel amazing on your body. And I must admit that I thought for a long time that Eileen Fisher was for a much older set of women, but the truth is, her garments are ultra-flattering on every body type and can go through a casual weekend to a night on the town.

The bigger and more important reasons to love EF are the fact that her products and practices work toward sustaining the environment. Eileen Fisher also supports women through "social initiatives that address their well-being". They also have a set of business practices that act responsibly with regard for human rights. That being said, I guess I've grown up too, because these are things that really do matter and if I can support the world while supporting the clothes on my back, then I also become part of this positive change.

Each Fall, I love to feature some of the beautiful clothes that are coming in online and in stores such as Nordstrom and Saks. I've recently dropped a healthy chunk of change for some amazing pieces that will extend from season to season.

With colors like Storm, Sienna, Cranberry, Cinnabar, African Violet and Dark Blueberry, it is hard not to completely succumb to Fall. The beautiful thing about all the pieces from EF is that they are interchangeable and perfect for layering. Eileen Fisher's design values connect through: "Simple. Sensual. Beautiful. Timeless. and Functional." I couldn't have said it better myself (hee!).

Sure, it might not be pushing capital-F fashion forward, but it is influencing and, one could argue, changing the way real women dress. So why not show in Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week?"

Need I say more? Absolutely beautiful J. Crew's 2012 Spring Preview from vogue.com by Emily Holt. Marissa Webb (now the former head of women's design) describes this as nautical with "crisp greens and blues perhaps inspired by the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas she sailed during a recent holiday." "Reds and oranges are thrown in the mix too, as is Françoise Hardy, for her feminine-slash-tomboy aesthetic."

Webb also describes two evolutions 1) of the "dorky mid-calf skirt lengths and 2) "sequins in saturated brights for spring, as opposed to the sophisticated, if not muted metallics of late."

For me it is just as much about the styling and accessories as it is the beautiful clothes. It could be a lovely scarf or bright bangle which can stand alone just as beautiful or be layered up for a more eclectic feel. I like the obvious print mixing whether it is polka dots over a plaid print and also color blocking, one of my favorites for this season. I am really excited about Spring 2012 (could we just fast forward through Winter?). Seriously!

I also like the subtle sophistication of some of the Collection pieces too. It makes me feel like J. Crew as I remember the brand (too long ago I'm afraid), has grown up and has landed in so many of our closets like a crazy cult favorite. A woman can never have enough pencil skirts and lollipop colored cashmere.

So, I am glad that J. Crew made it to FW. As the article described, "J. Crew may not be pushing capital F-fashion forward", but they are definitely "influencing". I don't know about you, but I would consider myself a modern woman and my closet is filled with plenty-o-pieces from J. Crew. Are you a loyal follower? Cheers.

Fresh Faces for Fall...

I am inspired again, not from fashion week's clothing (well that too!), but also from the fresh faces that continue to be a trend including those makeup tricks from J. Crew and showcased on the blog J. Crew}770 Behind the Line.

In addition to the bright pops of color which we seeing from many designers, the clean color palette is just breathtaking. J. Crew describes the need for a fresh, "blank" palette using in foundation that covers the skin but allows each model's real skin shine through. J. Crew uses Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer to accomplish this with a touch of luminizer on the cheekbones and "bow of the lips".

I certainly don't have flawless skin, but now that I am a bit older, I would rather focus on good cleansing and moisturizing instead of covering it up with foundation and powders. I have posted before on my favorite skincare regimen and it starts with Clarins. The products that I use continually include: Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Cottonseed, Bright Plus HP Brightening Hydration Day Lotion with 20 SPF and Bright Plus HP Brightening Repairing Night Cream. And of course I use just about every other product from Clarins including the marvelous toners, serums and body oils and moisturizers. I never used to be a one product brand woman, but I am very hooked on this line. And the products smell absolutely feminine and beautiful.

Another trick of the trade from J. Crew includes pulling the hair tight into a sleek ponytail. This is also a favorite trick of mine because it lifts your face and really allows for your best features to shine through whether that is your cheekbones, nose and/or eyes as examples. I love to use the Goody hairbands in natural color to match my hair. And then as J. Crew also illustrates, use the Elnett hairspray. In my opinion, there is no better hairspray and I use "Extra Hold". The beauty of this hairspray is that it makes your hairstyle look natural and not too product heavy and it is easy enough to brush through if you need to re-style.

Over at racked.com, they share this trend from Herve Leger showing the fresh faces and slicked back and smooth ponytails. While these designers are showing this for Spring, I love it for F/W as well because it gets us out of the "covering up" and again, allows for best features to shine-through.

Blog.Temptu.com shows that featuring eyes with a subtle face turns out to be a beautiful option for Fall/Winter makeup. Trends here illustrate using a strong liner or an unusual color such as "pumpkin" or what they are featuring as "spider eyes". With this trend, they suggest throwing out and perception of "good" mascara, but rather use multiple layers for a "thicker, more intense" look for Fall/Winter.

I personally love this because it really plays up the eyes and then I follow with very minimalistic makeup for the cheeks and lips. I use more of a nude look for those features.

From Harper's BAZAAR "Sitting Pretty: Checkout Fall's Best Beauty Trends" we see similar trends including the slicked back ponytail, a metallic eye or a "towering undo", all trends which really showcase the face.

I hope this gave you some ideas for Fall and Winter right around the corner. I really loved how so many of the designers showcased a more natural palette and less about trends makeup and hair. Timeless, feminine, beautiful, elegant, sensual ...need I say more. If you are a fan of Chanel No. 5, then you also likely know that it comes in a fabulous purse spray which in my case I recently picked up at Nordys. This has seriously become my favorite "pick-me-up" and has the most smashing, sleek spray along with two companion refills.

If you have not tried No. 5, I recommend that you do. I have always loved "Coco" which has a always reminded me of Fall and I wear right through Winter. No. 5 was a favorite only most recently and I adore.

Can I just say that J. Crew's new Silkspun sweater is probably one of the softest sweaters I've ever owned? It is a blend of wool, silk and nylon with just the tiniest bit of shine. It can easily be tucked into a pencil skirt or high-waisted pant and feels like it is barely there. And, it does suit for a little dressier occasion if you like. I bought it in navy because I'm on a kick instead of traditional black everything. However, it is so sumptuous that I can dream of it in every color! The sienna (shown right), autumn blaze and deep turquoise are a few favorites. If you have the patience for a markdown or sale, more power to you, but at $69.50, is almost worth the investment for a sweater you can fall in love with! Cheers.

With colors like vibrant flame, viridian green, heather fern and deep turquoise, how could one think "tulip" follows? Well, it does, at least at J. Crew. With the September catalog already in hand and new items popping up online for Autumn, who'd have imagined that this "Spring-like" color would end up being one favorite for Fall? Thematically it makes a lot of sense since they shot this catalog in Saint Petersburg, Russia where beautiful little ballerinas stood graceful at the Mariinsky and Yakobson dance schools. I love the pictures from this shoot, a little unexpected, especially the color palate, not for the dancers but for Fall. Light gray, camel, white and "tulip" sweaters adorned their beautiful bodies. The parallels of quality and perfection are synonymous with both the dancers and J. Crews standards of excellence. I am a true collector of their cashmere, so when I was moved with these lovely colors, I thought, "Why not?" and was immediately drawn to the "tulip" color especially in the boyfriend cardigan. But that sweater came in like a lion and out like a lamb! GONE in that style so I had to opt for the basic v-neck style. Am sharing a couple of the shoot's photos thanks to jenniferscreams.com, thank you! Never thought this would be a favorite Fall color of mine, but it goes beautifully with just about everything from camel skirts to pairing with a black dress. Love. And if your are crazy for this color theme, will also share my favorite, pink lipstick from Nars called Schiap, semi matte and gives a major pop of color without looking neon. Is even more beautiful after I use a light bronzer on my cheekbones, forehead and chin.

She explores beauty tips from none other than Marissa Webb, who in addition to being J. Crew's VP of Women's Design is stunning! We all see the gorgeous and natural looking models gracing the pages of the catalogs that we eagerly await to see each month. J.Crew's September Catalog + Beauty Tips!

One of the reasons the J.Crew catalog sucks us in so fast? The ridiculously fresh-faced girls that grace every single page. The dewy complexion, slightly undone hairdo, and bright burst of lip-color—we trust you know exactly who we’re talking about. To find out how to achieve this fresh, understatedly fancy look on your own, we tapped Marissa Webb, J.Crew’s VP of Women’s Design, and asked her to share some of the brand’s beauty secrets. And, while she was at it, she threw in an exclusive preview of the September catalog, which should be hitting your mailbox any day now. Check it out, and prepare to get mega-inspired. We know we are.

We’re obsessed with the girls in the J.Crew catalogs. What are your rules when it comes to creating the signature J.Crew beauty look? 
Marissa Webb: “I think it’s been pretty consistent for a number of years now. It’s usually a clean face and dewy complexion and an emphasis either on the lips or the eye, but never on both. And on the lip there’s often a really vibrant color.”

If someone wanted to recreate the makeup look at home, what tips would you give them? “For the everyday J.Crew girl, there are just three simple three steps. For your face, keep the makeup not too heavy and don’t wear too much overall. For myself, I don’t cake on a lot of foundation. And with bronzer I keep it light with maybe just a little light cheek powder. Then, to keep it fresh looking, if you put a boldly colored lip on, just add mascara. That’s it. Don’t do the bold eye at the same time. Or just emphasis your eye.”
Tell us about the Fall 2011 collection and how the beauty look fit into it.
“The J.Crew fall look is very classic. It was based on two movies, Bonnie and Clyde and The Great Gatsby. So, there’s a lot of whimsy, but also lots of structured garments and the color is very intense and bright. We really wanted to focus on tailoring and clean brights, so it’s more primary than we’ve done in the past. To pair the makeup with that, we played down the face a little bit and allowed the lip to pop in certain areas of the catalog. For J.Crew it’s usually about the lip. And in this case it’s nice to have a softer lip to play off of the bolder colors of the apparel. In the catalog there’s a mixture of some looks with a softer frosty lip, because you don’t always want primary colors head to toe. But if you turn to the next page, she has a vibrant lip again. And that bright coral is still there and we all still love it! So, there are two shades that you’ll notice.”

In the past, you guys have spilled that NARS Red Square is one of your favorite shades. Are there other specific brands or colors you use on your models?“It’s tricky because we have never selected just one beauty brand for a whole shoot because we’ve worked with so many makeup artists and each one of them have different brands that they like to work with. So, I wouldn’t say that it’s all NARS or it’s all this or that. We have our signature coral red lipstick and I don’t think that’s going away anytime soon. And then this season, again, we mixed it up a bit where you might see a more frosty lip, which I think goes really well with those primary colors.”
How would someone achieve the perfect coral hue?
“I wear the coral lipstick myself all the time and you can achieve that lip in so many different ways. It’s all about trying out different coral shades and it’s usually just not a shot of one color, but a mixture of a lipstick and then a pencil on top or a powder on top. Right now we’re offeringour own Poppy King lipstick, which just came out last month. It wasn’t used in the catalog, but it was based on our coral lipstick. We received so many requests for that lipstick, so Poppy King and I worked on developing it. It took us a long time, but we tried the shade on people all around the office and it’s exciting because the coral really does work on many, many people. It’s sort of a way to achieve that lip without having to figure it out yourself.”

What are your rules when it comes to creating the easy-breezy hairdos in the catalog? “For the most part, we are pretty consistent with the hair, too. It’s natural. It’s always a little bit messy. It’s never too perfect, too uptight, or too coiffed. It’s usually either a center part, a little bit of a side part, or a soft pulled back look. If you’re too tailored from your head to your toe, there’s a bit of added interest and texture if you have a more natural look to your hair. Just remember to pull it back lightly and gently.”
J.Crew's September catalog was shot in St. Petersburg, Russia and features the famed Mariinsky Ballet dancers. Look out for it in your mailbox!
I love that they focus on accentuating a models best features without over-doing them. I am all for "clean and dewy" with a beautiful pop of lipstick. As I've reached my 40's (sigh!), I feel more comfortable with this approach. Makeup is one of the best accessories you can wear everyday. I always get the most complements when I have a just flushed blush and lip gloss. We can radiate from within and that is important in my opinion of achieving these looks. Fall is Coming...Beautiful Tone on Tone Colors from Eileen Fisher.

I love the easiness of Eileen Fisher's pieces. I love the women that she places in her campaigns, real women with all different shapes. And this month is no different reflecting the "Sartorial Slouch" and if that doesn't peak your interest just a little bit...! Let's just say that there are beautiful pieces with a "slouch" that are perfect for "every" woman. And the colors are to die for, perfect for Autumn's first callings. One link is also themed "The Nature of Color" a clever little twist on words that do in fact pull us closer to nature's greatest hues and completely wearable. My personal favorite is the drape neck slouchy Top in fine gauge cashmere, color is Sienna and perfectly so.

The colors are so rich and this is probably one of my most favorite times of year to view her site, stunning. And I just love all the layering options from silk to cashmere, merino wool to viscose knit with Lycra. This week's magazine issue of Net-a-porter features asks its readers whether their style was more like "femme fatale" or like a "guy" with two guests perspectives. Mr. Porter's styling director Dan Mays says "man up" and features who do you think? Jenna Lyons of course (page -5-)! I am glad this trend continues to be featured because I love such femininity mixed with a masculine staple. Featured are 5 androgynous pieces such as an ankle boot, masculine blazer, cropped pant, masculine parka and buttoned shirt with beautiful details.

I love an ultra fem blouse paired with masculine-looking pants as shown left in Stella McCartney (pants) and Alexander Wang (blouse).

I think it is all in the details. If you are going for that masculine look accessories become just as important as the clothing. A beautiful stripy heel (loving J. Crew's Medina shoes), feminine clutch or a piece of jewelry can make an outfit. J. Crew's recent capsule collection features Lulu Frost with some gorgeous bangles this one shown with a turquoise stone. Love!

Little Previews for Early Fall...

Oh the colors, vibrant and alive like Fall is just peeking through. I don't know about you, but I am ready for the thick heat to retire for awhile to let us begin pulling our Autumn sweaters out and maybe with a beautiful, light scarf. And, it is that time of year where most of the fashion magazines, double in size, mostly advertisements, but I love them just the same. I walked out with September issues for both In Style and Vogue tonight and needless to say, it was bordering a bit heavy. I will turn the pages, start sometimes from the back, turn the corners, cut and paste favorites and all in all immerse myself with the beautiful photographs and striking editorial.

This is also the time of year I am looking for richer eye shadows, deeper blush and pops of fabulous lip color. I've got a new favorite. Nars pure matte lipstick is super pigmented and like the description says, "it nourishes lips in a velvety vitamin-rich formula." Ok, all I know is that this is the bomb! I bought nearly every color Madere which is a plumb brown and the perfect shade to ease into Fall. Love.

It is also time to store away the light and floral fragrance and bring on a more sensual, deeply vibrant scent. My favorite is Coco by Chanel which breathes oriental passages and warmth. This is one of the few perfumes that I wear and people always notice how beautiful it smells. And for a splurge, get the shower/bath gel and cream in the jar which is far more fragrant than the lotion. The gel is by far the most luxurious, bubbly lather I've ever used.

And if you hadn't noticed I am crazy for all the poplin' colors of sweaters, skirts and dresses. J. Crew has a lovely September catalog which I picked up today. I'm rolling toward a cashmere binge. I love the shawl -collar sweater in tulip. You might think this is a bit Summer/Spring-ish, but I think that paired with a camel skirt or pant it would be lovely. Or how 'bout the Hutton trouser Super 120s in warm sienna? Really any of the pencil skirts would pair well with this.

I am crushing on the vintage tweed jacket. No offense J. Crew, but could you have called it anything else besides "mustard"?. I am sour on mustard, maybe "maize"? Anyways, this smart jacket is the perfect pop to freshen up to conservative blazers that drown my closet. I really like the uneven weave and vintage-inspired buttons. There is just enough detail in this one to make it special.

September Sweater and Other Sweet Finds...J. Crew

September sweater...This gorgeous sweater looks far better at the B&W verses online. So much so, that I opted two which I rarely do. When I saw it online, I was thinking this is the boxiest sweater but with the v-neck, it gives it a more feminine look. I am loving the shorter sleeves on sweaters. The heather blue sea and heather moss are quintessential colors for Fall. I like this sweater definitely for the layering potential but also because it hits below the hip so it is perfect for belting as well. I am envisioning it now...cool, crisp September morning layered up, walking my dogs!

I also bought the Stripe-out tee in Modal fabric, perfect for packing and just a bit of "dress" up for a tee. I bought it in the vintage elm in parallel with the heather moss sweater (are you seeing a trend here?!). Aaaaand another one, bought the Featherknit shirred henley tee also in a nice drapey fabric (viscose and linen). I opted for navy...very pretty.

One last note. My "heart" of the week is the Double-cloth metro coat. J. Crew describes as:

Of course I love this in "vibrant flame" which has quickly become my favorite color for this coming Fall. I am also digging the mustard...so different. I am adoring the bright color palette.

I'm in love, or at least very much intrigued. So much so that I nearly talked myself into $445 for Kate Spade's new Bow Bridge Kennedy handbag! The only thing that saved me was my Nordstrom's only had the floor samples of this new bag which I would never accept at that price.
On the website, they describe the inspiration of this tote from "one of the most memorable places in Central Park which has a bow bridge as it's focal point—a nineteenth century cast iron beauty that stretches across the lake near 74th street. Speaking of iconic, we turned to one of our own favorite signatures the bow and crafted this tote in smooth natural leather."
I am allured by the cube, not so practical but very chic indeed. I think that I saw one similarly by Chloe or MaxMara earlier, I cannot recall. Either way, this is a shift from all the unstructured hobos and shoulder bags from previous seasons.
I love the detailing as well. While I do not love bows on anything, this flat placed bow on the front adds a femininity to this cool, masculine cube. It comes in natural, cliff gray and black. The description and details on the Bow Bridge Kennedy include the following:

I missed this one on Jenna Lyons (left) pictured at the Wall Street Journal Off Duty Summer Solstice Celebration in New York on June 21st. She is looking oh so summery in her Celine dress and Chanel shoes. I love the bright orange lips and handbag, so pretty! I assume that is the reason she was also featured for vogue.com's "10 Best Dressed List" as they were featuring anything but subtle colors for Summer.

We see Jenna again featured both in the August issue of Vogue and online through vogue.com's Special Edition Best Dressed List at the 2011 Met Gala. Jenna is photographed with Eddie Borgo (right) where she is wearing a J. Crew sweater and bridal skirt. I am not sure about this ensemble when you consider the frocks of Sarah Jessica Parker, Gywneth Paltrow and Taylor Swift? What are your thoughts? Do you think the casual mixed with dressed up bridal fits this event's very formal dress styles? I absolutely love the skirt and she looks fantastic as usual. I am just not sure this works for me. I do see the poppin' bright orange lipstick again which looks far better on her than I!

J. Crew Brings on Fall with Classic Favorites and Beautiful Bright Colors!

Ok, so it's confirmed, no more J. Crew online catalogs? I am a bit disappointed by this, but I can tell you that the sales associates at the B&M I visited were not even aware. They were as puzzled as I. And they say to me, "must be those bloggers who keep posting all the pictures". (Gasp) Really? I offered up that "those bloggers" including me, help their overall sales with all our free advertising. Well, their cheeks turned a rosy pink and then they nervously nodded at me most agreeably. Fortunately, Fabulous Florida Mommy has scanned the August 2011 catalog, so happy viewing and thanks to FFM!

I do have some favorites from the New Arrivals. I am happy to see major bursts of color coming across so many collections and J. Crew has some beautiful pieces. I will start with their Classic No. 2 pencil skirt. Always a great investment piece, but if you are looking to expand the color wardrobe here, you will be pleased. My personal fav is the viridian green as shown. Jazzy purple and vibrant flame are close seconds. I think J. Crew still holds first for this key staple to our wardrobes. The double serge wool give it a nice weight and they've thinned the waistband a bit for overall comfort.

I am loving the cashmere boyfriend sweater in 14 beautiful colors! I am personally crushing on the "tulip" as shown, kind of untraditional for Fall, but completely feminine nonetheless. Heather indigo (cobalt), bright dahlia, vibrant flame and plum orchard are also gorgeous and rich colors. This cardi is slightly oversized this season as well which makes it easier for layering.

The vibrant flame that is popping up is really the color of the season in my opinion. I am waiting for a pair of wool "poppy" or "Chile red" colored pants to show up somewhere and under $1,000!

The schoolboy blazer in velvet has not historically been a fav of mine, but guess what, it comes in "poppy" and I'm completely smitten. The bristol blue was my second favorite. These colors seem much richer than in years past so I may definitely give this one a run.

Drawn again to the rich colors makes the silk Lucinda blouse a stunner for me. Vibrant flame pops up here again as a color choice, but I love the spicy gold as shown. It is not quite mustard, has more yellow in it which really brightens this up. Suit or jeans, this is a pretty, feminine and practical blouse for every wardrobe.

The Albertus Swanepoel fedora made for J. Crew will likely be on my "splurge" list. I was drawn to the camel leopard print because I continue to be on a hunt for anything with animal prints, love. But, this fedora in particular is made by the "South African-born and Brooklyn-based milliner whose creations have topped off the looks of some of the biggest names in fashion..." as J. Crew describes. I think this one may be a nice, eclectic accessory to hold your head high with for Fall, very cool.

And off my splurge and onto my "must-have" are the Hutton trousers in pinstripe Super 120s. I am very attracted to these in particular because of the beautiful drape and how high waisted they appear to be. These sorts of cuts work well with my 5'10" height, so I will definitely be getting these. These pants are also a great staple for day-to-day work wear. Love!

And back to color is the chic Edie tote which I love in what they are just calling "flame". It is a hot handbag and I love the streamlined look of this tote. The only thing I wish J. Crew would pay a bit more attention to in these bags are the linings. They are awfully "bland" and would love to have seen this one for example with a pretty silk-striped lining. I would almost be able to justify the $348 a bit more if this detail were a focus. So many beautiful handbags have attention to this detail such as Kate Spade where the linings become part of her brand and trademark look. Just a suggestion J. Crew!

The Capelette coat has caught my eye in a beautiful navy, this poncho-like overcoat has a 3/4 length sleeve and a hood which I love for dreary, wet Autumn days in the Midwest. The heavy wool is used traditionally for U.S. Navy peacoats which makes the investment all the more justifiable. In addition to its "chicness", it should be very warm for sure.

I love the new Cafe Capri in wool. I like these in the bright dahlia. They come in very pretty colors. I just wish that these came in a size beyond 12. They do not fit us curvy girls so well with this cut, so hopefully added sizing will become available. This pant gives a great opportunity for color blocking a bright on top and bottom. On the homepage, they show it as number 2/5 of the Fall favorites with the bright dahlia capri and what looks like a vibrant flame sweater or blouse on top. The contrasting colors this Fall are big and J. Crew got it right for sure with this! I also loved the leopard print clutch in the picture, but was nowhere to be found on the site (tisk, tisk)! That drives me absolutely insane when the styling includes major pieces that don't seem to be available with the current set of offerings. If my eyes have missed this, please let me know!

So these are some of my early favorites for sure. J. Crew, please bring the online catalog back. I personally love to chat about the pieces that I see online and it is great to preview this before it actually hits the B&Ms. All in all, I think that the trends are beautiful both in details and color. Happy Summer everyone! I love these "What's In Your Handbag" pages in several magazines. You may ask what could be so interesting in my handbag? I think there is a curious fascination in just about every woman's handbag from the products she may use to what is on her reading list.

Getting this glimpse gives me "favorites" from other women and if it has made it in her handbag, then it is likely tested and true for her!

Here is a glimpse of my handbag and the items I've been carrying around (on my short walking trips with my healing back!)...you never know when you might need any of these things!

J. Crew's Silk & Cotton Rib-Stitch Tunic..."Instant, easy chic!"

New in stores and online, J. Crew's Silk & Cotton Rib-Stitch Tunic is definitely as described, an "instant (easy) chic". In a color called muslin, this medium weight sweater-tunic has a beautiful texture and love that it could be belted with a gorgeous leather belt or worn with a fitted pant as a tunic. It fits as described, but if you buy a size down, you could definitely wear as a more fitted option either way.

This piece is much prettier in person compared to its simple look online. It's a must-have in my opinion.

There are some pretty items that are filtering in before the official "pre-fall" inventory comes in toward the end of July. There are also some beautiful jewelry items that have come into the stores not shown on the site. All I will say is that they are classically "sparkly" and the perfect jewel-tones which make it very hard to resist!

Could There Ever Be Another Carrie?

So my husband and I had a lively bicker the other evening as to whether or not Sex and The City, the movies had "jumped the shark". He further raised my "dander" by suggesting that perhaps it was time for a new "Carrie". Now for some perspective as to why I would possibly be defensive. If you are even remotely a fan as I am, you likely have also watched every single episode at least twice. I've seen the movies at least three times each and I would agree that the second lost some steam, but I didn't care. I still loved their challenges, outfits and relationships with each other. I firmly squared off in that there could only be the original SATC girls. Having younger women take over their roles would be such a let down in my opinion!

I remember reading a headline from Vogue.com (UK) back in February which asked a similar question..."The New Carrie?" There was apparently buzz that Blake could possibly play the young Carrie in a Sex and the City prequel which is based on Bushnell's novel The Carrie Diaries. Now mind you the prequel is about the coming of age of these characters, but I don't think it would have the same appeal. Even when I read the book I envisioned SJP throughout. Could there be another?

I love everything about Carrie and SJP has made herself and the character a fashionable icon. Her humor had so many of us belly-rolling with our girlfriends over their stories, trends and challenges. Carrie made us dream of Manolo's and her fabulous wardrobe in general. That, could never be replaced. And besides, Blake wears Louboutins!

What are your thoughts? Has SATC "jumped the shark"? If you are a fan would you be just as excited to see different stars playing the girl's roles in the prequel? Should they make another SATC movie with SJP and friends?

The "Indie" Hobo Bag from J. Crew...

I just purchased and received J. Crew's Indie Hobo bag. It is much smaller than the picture seems to reflect on the dress form. I love bigger bags, but this is not the one for roominess. J. Crew describes below as "summery". I am not really sure about that, but it is considerably lighter than some of their hobo bags so this must be where the description fits.

I am keeping this one as the weaving is really pretty and I love the brown strap with the black bag in contrast. With the recent 30% off Sale items it made is a lovely deal for sure. And, it will fare much better on my back not carrying so much around!

J. Crew describes the Indie as:

Loving the "Headscarf" as a Perfect Summer Pick-Me-Up!

Since I've been laid up, I've taken a heightened approach to pulling my hair back so I don't have the stress of washing every day. With that, sometimes it is just best to cover it up!

You probably noticed that the scarf has been used as a beautiful accessory in so many fashion magazines this Summer. There are some amazing colors that can add just the right pop of color. It really is a fabulous way to dress yourself up a bit whether you are in shorts or going out to dinner (or in my case recuperating with visitors stopping by!).

So, who says you have to look tired and unkempt because you are off your feet? And who says you can't take that same old outfit and spice it up? I've taken a renewed interest in my scarf box. Maybe you have or had a grandmother stow some of these in an attic or drawer. Some of my Aunt's have come back in fashion so I am glad these stuck around and made it into my drawer!

Obviously eBay is a great way to search for some higher end designer scarves such as Ferragamo, DVF and Pucci. Nordstroms also carries these scarves and with some other more affordable options as shown in the picture above by Janie Besner. Scarves that are specific for head wear may commonly be referred to as a headscarf, neckerchief or head wrap. Nordstroms highlighted the "headscarf" recently in their blog The Thread as follows:

I also find that the texture/material is important in choosing a scarf. One with a blend including some cotton is very breathable. I also like a "washed" silk or chiffon which gives it a nice feeling on your head or skin and adds a pretty sheen. If you are seeking the length of the scarf to fall a bit longer from your hair or even down your back, make sure you consider dimensions. I like to wrap and then have substantial scarf left to fall behind my hair, so 70" in length is typically my choice. This also allows the scarf to be used as a body wrap through another season.

For me, this accessory has come back to rear it's "chicness" right onto my head! Do you have any pretty scarves that you have either stored or plan to buy?

Now that's the J. Crew I know and love! Take a peek at the Fall video and Look Book preview for some of the Fall pieces. I love the use of bright colors, textures and what seems to be some comebacks of J. Crew classic in general. These items are currently pre-order.

I really love the leather/faux fur trench on the last slide, super cool (19 online)! This actually gets be excited about Fall. Creatively I feel they've managed to present a youthful and slightly eclectic look without veering so far off the path to who they are as a brand. And, the models look absolutely beautiful and healthy.

Summer's Classic Offerings Wrapped Up in J. Crew July, Brief Review...Catalog Available Online!

Oh July, my love! Well, not quite, but J. Crew has set "sail" with lots of new items and of course their July catalog. It gives me a sense that the depths of Summer are just around the corner and I am laid up! Having had my back surgery, I've had limited attention span for just about anything, but have appreciated the time to heal and sit back. And scrolling through fashion's emerging Summer pieces is nice therapy on the side!

J. Crew's July offerings don't disappoint and even though many of the trends are consistent across retailers (the "maxi", linen, nautical stripes, wedge sandals...), I was loving the richness of color JC offered throughout. They also captured some of the old J. Crew that I've longed to see.

"Celebrate Summer" as example on catalog pages 2-3 shows the classic "preppster" family wearing classic clothes. This photo makes me want to join them! I would imagine they are sharing a traditional lobster feast, either in the Hamptons or off the coast of Maine. The vibrant color mixed with beauty (especially Lauren Hutton), make me feel happy for all that Summer brings. Love the styling with classic button downs and linen, plaid and trendy tortoise shell sunglasses.

I adore the paisley pencil skirt and at 22" in length, a more suitable option for those of us that are out of the "mini" options! JC has been too short, short in my opinion for far too long. I also love the pearls styled over the boys white shirt and how about the Tretorns? Love this look completely and from my perspective, I think this is a nice transition "back" to a more classic J. Crew look as well.

I like the Marlow bag in henna. It is nice and roomy 12"X17" overall with several pockets to please. It reminds me of the kind of bag my mother carried around when we were young holding all of our stuff every day! I tell my kids now that if they bring it, they carry it!

Per my post below, Eddie Borgo is featured with J. Crew as a runner-up for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award. I am not a big fan of his "punk-ish" jewelry. This seems to target a younger crowd but the cool aesthetic is spot-on to add to some of the more classic pieces of J. Crew. Frankly I was more interested in spying in on his prized possessions (check out the site). It is fun looking into what makes people who they are and what drives them creatively. And, his cool aesthetic is clear through his guest edits for Jenna's Picks.

I like the Panama hat which is nicely priced at $58. I have seen these as high as $300, so this is a great steal for Summer.

Lastly, J. Crew does a fabulous job with swim suits both in cut and color. July is no exception. With colors like plum orchard, vivid poppy, casablanca blue and agate both in green and a sumptuous paisley - who would not want to dream about a vacation by the sea!

Each year I look forward to the annual CFDA award's show to see who will shine among the fashion designer's brightest. And Vogue.com captures the photographs beautifully. As below, I have copied a few of my favorites and there are some 37 pics on their site at Vogue.com. As far as major awards, Marc Jacobs (one of my favorites), accepted the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement which has been (coined the Half-Lifetime Achievement Award). Thrilled. The Womenswear Designer of the year went to Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler and for Menswear designer of the year, honor went to Michael Bastian. Alexander Wang accepted the Accessory Designer of the Year (yeah!). Emerging talent awards were recognized with The Swarovski Award for Womenswear given to Prabel Gurung. The Menswear award went to Robert Geller and Accessories presented to Eddie Borgo.

For J. Crew fashionistas, you may already know that J. Crew has joined forces with the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund with winning recipients celebrating a creation as their "signature capsule collection" designed exclusively with J. Crew. Billy Reid, the 2010 winner is currently featured on www.jcrew.com. Runner up recipients include Prabal Gurung (June) and Eddie Borgo (July). They are also featured online, catalog and in stores. Let’s go find the bar!” Nearby,Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Swarovski nominees for Womenswear Designer, held court on one of the green foam settees lining the room. Asked how the twin sisters would celebrate if honored with the award, Mary-Kate, in a gold sequined Chanel jacket, replied with a flat smile, “Bed. We have work early in the morning. We’re finishing resort.” As the bells announcing the show began to sound, the Olsens stood up to confer with Daphne Guinness, who had a laser cut–ornament fascinator atop her head, and as guests made their way into the theater, Jason Wu led date Karlie Kloss across the front row by the hand.

Anderson Cooper, the host for the evening, opened the show by sharing rare and unseen photos of himself as a child model for Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein—proving he has both fashion cred and enough experience to serve as the night’s MC. Evening highlights included Karolina Kurkova’s suddenly breaking into song while presenting the Swarovski Awards. “I hear Lady Gaga’s in the house; I’m such a fan!” she gushed before thrilling the audience by singing, “I’m your biggest fan, I’ll follow you until you love me, papa-paparazzi.” Later, Kanye West, wearing jeans and rhinestone-encrusted velvet Stubbs & Wooten–style slip-ons, presented the International Award to Phoebe Philo of Céline with a heartfelt speech about how he used to go into the Chloé boutiques when Philo was designing for the house and marvel at the mastery of the handbags. J. Crew June...Early Summer and a Sprinkle of Pricey Collection

With all that comes with Summer, nautical stripes, linen cool, pops of color and the crispness of a beautiful white shirt, J. Crew has hit it home. However, there were a few things that took be aback, not only because of the pricey pieces, but that they were less than original and intermixed with conservatively priced summer clothing that the general population might seek from J. Crew.

As example, as much as I adore stripes and J. Crew continues to be my home-base, the Comme des Garcons Play striped heart tee made its way into the mix of cotton "tee" options at a cool $136. Really, I feel the borders have been pushed a bit here in assuming J. Crew's core audience would find this appealing. Never mind the fact that Rei Kawakubo (founder of the funky, cult label) offers a hip designer's edge in offerings, but my feeling was "why another stripe tee" of all the pieces to weave into the season. Heart logo or not, I will not spend this much on a tee.

Another piece that was added to J. Crew's Collection included the silk georgette Secretary blouse. Flowey with a removable sash, the $275 price tag pushes me back losing any attraction I may have had to this blouse. This is one of those pieces that I would actually opt for a designer name rather than buying from J. Crew. I find this to be a very confusing add, Collection or not.

Another piece from The Collection that made me scratch my head included the Aperitif dress. J. Crew calls a "summery stunner" made of smooth cotton sateen. At $395, it is definitely a "stunner"!

Oh J. Crew, I love "9 Women Wear One Shirt" demonstrating the easy but dress-up-able linen blouses that are a staple most women can afford and will invest in. I love the feature of Prabal Gurung where a limited Collection and collaboration makes sense. Some of these expensive designer pieces seem their worth with label-seeking customers looking for something a little bit different. And I love all the basics in linen and cotton across a rainbow of colors that appeal to just about everyone.

I just don't fancy some of these pieces that in my opinion get "stuck" in to an otherwise very affordable and wearable collection for Summer. What are your favorite items for Summer and those not so much?

Talbots Fall Look Book (just a sneak peek)!

A "sneak peek" at Talbots Fall Look Book. And oh my, while I cannot even imagine a hint of Fall right now, the colors to come in their Look Book left me breathless. A "latte" verses "camel" and a "teal" over last Fall's cobalt, all make me want a refresher already! The teal blue (what they are calling blue mirage on page 4-5) overcoat is on my list and will serve as a semi-replacement to the beautiful teal overcoat that my husband threw in a garage sale! This was my grandmother's coat and so there is a little vintage feel that I have been endlessly searching for. The accessories are divine, with a slight departure from the leopard animal prints to more of a modern tiger (love!).

My followers, I am afraid it has been awhile since my last post. Have bum knees which I've recently had re-scoped & repaired, and am anxiously preparing for a serious lower lumbar surgery. I have been less then inspired of late, lacking energy as you can imagine. All of the things I love in Spring, still have a way of moving forward which carries my along. I am hoping that the hands of gifted surgeons will revitalize me for the long-term.

I often reach for anything J.Crew on the weekends and so love the clever positioning of their "weekend chic" wearables whether you are reading the paper with a cup of coffee, walking the dog, or playing with your little one(s) as Jenna is portrayed with her son Beckett (too cute)! I was wondering if JC would ever take the lens to a closer place in her life and I thought it was smart and lovely with clothing choices. After all, how easy is it to make jersey pieces and moccasins look fabulous, but somehow J. Crew does!

I am liking the racer tote in natural speckle. I do not need another tote, but this one adds a bit of preppy mixed with boho chic that would transition well into Summer.

On a sale note, am thrilled there is a 30% Off Sale Items with Free Ship on $150+. I picked up a cashmere/wool blend Plaza coat in camel which I intend to pack away for next Winter, but I was really excited for this deal as it was at $129 before the Sale percentage off.

Breathtakingly beautiful imagery, as expected through Vogue, but wanted to share one of my favorite features that pops up annually Vogue's Beauty Trends and in this case from the Fall 2011 Collections entitled "Easy Does It".

Vogue.com says:

Refreshing—or perhaps, refreshed—is a word that comes to mind when describing the beauty at this fall’s collections. The familiar tropes were all there, but updated with a new vocabulary. Sure, there were chignons, braids, and ponytails, but many of the best had come softly, realistically undone, offering inspiration for a fashion pack increasingly influenced by real-world individuality and DIY street style. Think of it as twisting the classics: The red lip turned gothic, or orange, or shockingly pink in some cases; smoky eyes emerged in living color, while classic cat liner took graphic turns; highlights came in punky streaks of blue and pink. Simplicity was front and center, too, with a focus on enviably, utterly beautiful skin, a girlish flush, and the power of a well-groomed brow.

I was particularly attracted to this set of trends because right now I am focused more than ever on healthy skin, smoky eyes and pulled back "pony's". When you hit your 40's, there comes a feeling of confidence, but still wanting to shine through your uniqueness without over-doing it and I thought these trends from the Fall Collections were spot on for me with reference to this.

I love these beautiful ponies featured in shows like Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. As Vogue.com features from "glossy to high maintenance".

I am always on the fence as to how long I will grow my mane, but I think that if you style so beautifully, there is an elegance that can update any look. Perfect example is this one from the Louis Vuitton, Paris show. I love this sleeked pony with a beautiful headband (shown left).

I've also been a bit "skin manic" having applied skin creams and tonics since 12, my skin is clearly reaping the benefits now. Recently, I've been been on a conversion of products using almost all Clarins on my face, hands, feet. All I can say is that my face is downright "dewey" and bright especially when I use their Bright Plus Night Cream which is enriched with Sea Lily. It is amazing and so light. My skin glows when I use this product. So I was very encouraged to see the focus in the Fall Collections to be around immaculate and natural skin. I also use Christian Dior's Airbrush spray foundation which gives the most beautiful veil of coverage making the skin look natural and luminous. I think that women of all ages can flaunt this skin. It takes some work, but this is what we are born in so it is worth it! The faces at the Proenza Schouler show in New York are gorgeous shown here through Vogue.com (right).

And to compliment the flawless face, you must have the right brows. Vogue.com features the "Now Brow" and I must say, am glad there is a movement to the darkened, penciled and strong brow which in my opinion really makes a fresh, glowing face stand out from the crowd.

Brows like those shown in the Alexander Wang, New York show are exactly that which are natural, but bold and really shape a face. They look stunning with hair down and definitely up.

So hope you check out some of Vogue.com's other featured trends from the 2011 Fall Collections. I love them all! Ok, maybe not the streaks of blue, red in the hair, but I'll give it to be Bold no less!

It's been awhile since I've updated my Polyvore and since I'm continuing down my Spring fling, this set seemed most appropriate. The The Talbot's daisy lace pencil skirt is my favorite in peach madeleine. I love this color because it can go slightly coral or pinkish with accessories. The daffodil yellow is also great and would be super cute paired with a chambray shirt as shown through Talbot's styling.

What's In My Bag? - March 2011

My March handbag is beginning to feel more like an Easter basket and walking into the Coach store a couple weeks ago pretty much sprung me into Spring! The "Kristin" line in particular is so amazingly beautiful that I bought both bag and wallet. Interestingly though, as "matchy" as I like to get, I opted pale pink and yellow (I just couldn't resist). The colors are the perfect hues and in my case, the perfect pick-me-up.

I am always bag to hand with some sort of magazine and of recent have been subscribing to both the UK and US versions of Elle and Marie Claire. I have to say that I am loving "Brit" editorial by a major stretch and the high gloss photos help too!

My new fav lipstick is Lancome's Color Design series in Matte. This is the BEST matte lipstick I have ever bought (sorry MAC). I have been a loyal follower of MAC's matte coverage, but Lancome's texture is far better in overall feel and wear. They have some great new shades and so filling both my pink and coral urges ended up with "Posh Pink" and "Corset" which are the prettiest shades. And, they make your teeth look super white both having slightly bluish undertones. I always keep Dior's Lip Balm in Creme de Rose in my bags from season to season as this is the best with the nicest, rose scent.

My Kate Spade planner is a must. And, my favorite staple of recent is my Moroccan Oil which I love for a midday hair shine and also doubles as a great intensive oil for hands and cuticles.

With Spring coming, I find that a pretty new handbag and lipstick binge are sweet rewards. After all, a girl has to take care of herself! I think we are all ready for some warmer days and frankly, I don't even care if the rains come as long as the breezes begin to blow. I am all ready!

Unless you are a part of the scene, I don't know how you could keep up with so many beautiful collections, so for a great wrap up with beautiful photographs, Vogue.com does it again. A "Wrap" of the most beautiful designer's. The McQueen to the right absolutely takes my breath away. It is heavenly and stunning...need I say more. When a piece like this can fill a mood or tell a story, well then you know you've set out to what you wanted to do. There is obviously a world far more dream-like than WTW, may I tip to couture?

Electrifying, so free and divine, Ripples of bursting sunbursts. The hits a great piece where late Indian summer creeps in right before the chill air of Fall.

Anyways, picked a couple favs but there are so many lovely photos and great celebrity hopping. I hope this gets you even more excited for coming seasons

Exquisite, Beautiful Daisy Lace Jacket from Talbot's Spring 2011 Line...

Every now and then I find a piece that compels me to pay full price. Talbots new Jackie fit daisy lace jacket was just that piece for me. It is so unique and pretty and I do not recall the last time I bought a jacket like this. I love to buy some pieces that can stand the test of time, but also have a little character. This jacket is so ultra-feminine and Spring-like, and can be dressed up or down like the photo shows with jeans. I actually picked this up for an upcoming trip to Austin so that I could throw it on with jeans and still look dressed. It is unbelievably comfortable made of cotton/lyocell and with 3/4 length sleeves. It has no close, flap pockets with the prettiest little cream, marble-shaped buttons. And if you are not familiar with the different cuts in their jackets, the "Jackie" is described as the following:

Reminiscent of the boyfriend blazer, the Talbots Jackie fit is playfully narrow and straight through the waist with generous room through the bust. Measurements, proportion and balance have been standardized with offerings in long, three-quarter and bracelet sleeves.

The cotton lining has just the slightest tone of creamy, beige which compliments the cream-colored lace daisies beautifully.

So, if you have been convinced to either consider or buy this little gem, I recommend you do so quickly. Just as rarely as these items come in the door, they go out just as fast. I have found on occasion that items disappear if there is an extraordinary request.

March Brings Promise...J. Crew, Spring Emerging!

From the cover to new items, J. Crew brings "promise" and what I mean by that is hope, potential and a great return to their pretty classics! Finally, I am taken by their very Spring-like cover and a beautiful palette between the pages. This is the first time in awhile that I've really been excited about what lies beneath and have some early favorites for sure.

I love, love, love the Deveaux sandals. I will be eager to see if these come in a poppin' color come Summer, but for now am keeping my eye on the "toffee".

I am on board with their styling suggestions and themes tied to motifs (from Paisely to floral and madras) mixed with contrasting textures and vibrants accents. Now, if I can only pull this off! Some days I feel braver than others. I think this sort of mixing takes a bit of confidence.

This sailor stripe boy shirt is fabulous! And in true J. Crew form, gotta love how they can updo the copy text even on a basic dress shirt. They say:

"The boyfriend shirt, reimagined in an insanely plush slub cotton twill fabric (we washed it with a special softener to get it as cozy as possible) and in the mariner stripes that we love. With a classic silhouette, updated with seams at the bust for a subtly feminine fit. Long roll-up sleeves."

Insanely plush slub cotton?! I will have to touch it to believe it :)!

Seriously, I love how they have this styled with the skirt, but would be super pretty with jeans and a wide belt. Or, could be a terrific shirt under suit or with a pencil skirt. This will be a "must buy" for sure.

I will take anything in this cornflower (blue) on the cotton Alexi sweater. In this range of colors they are all what they call "speckled" which adds a little texture to an otherwise very basic item. Pretty nonetheless and my second favorite is the speckled cerise.

Page -28- of the catalog has the sun-drenched sweatshirt and once again I am drawn to this blue called "abstract blue". I love the heavy terry and 3/4 length sleeves. The shorter length is fun so will be the perfect lounging sweatshirt over a long tee.

I previewed the Maritime dress a few posts ago, but the stripe is "sail blue". Are you starting to pick up on my "blue love" here? I just love it! Very fresh and represents water, so please bring on the rains as I am getting tired of the snow!

My super wish -- the Mackintosh Kilmany coat in ruby (also page -48-). At $950, really - one thing that J. Crew is consistent with, infusing an over-the-top item that seems to stretch the boundaries both in look and the wallet...this is a long way from the slub tees and chino shorts. A girl can dream, right?! I really just adore the ruby red. All I have to say is that this water-resistant, bonded cotton better keep a girl absolutely dry!

On pages 64 and 65, I really like the Corsa collection handbags and the Portia pant.

I am "digging" the tote in sand dune which is a happy medium between a light pink and peach... It has a "vintage" look as they describe. I've seen this twice at the B&M and so wondering how many times I will walk by it before I actually purchase it!

The wool Portia pant is one of the prettiest I have seen in awhile, but I so hope the "off the runway" sizing goes past a size 8! Some of us are a little curvier than that. This seriously looks like it would be flattering on many sizes and shapes. The fold-over waist is a lovely detail that I have not seen elsewhere.

So those were my early picks. I was not horrified by anything (thank goodness)! Items like that tinsel pouchette last season about pushed me over the edge! I feel that JC is returning to a prettier, more classic with an edge direction offering a nice range to make the preppy, corporate gal and/or light-hearted rocker happy. What are your favorites? Julianne Moore for Talbot's Spring 2011...Gorgeous, Imaginative & for Every Woman!

Talbot's has done it again, that is for me at least. They've lured me in with stunning and imaginative, almost fantasy-like photographs. And I cannot imagine a more beautiful and "real" celebrity model to represent Talbot's like Julianne Moore! She looks like a pretty little fairy and I just adore how Talbot's has placed her with their Spring line of gorgeous new clothing items and accessories that are stunning.

The tuileries floral skirt is definitely on my wish list and comes in a swing jacket with the same beautiful print. I also love the satin puff sleeve blouse in aqua blue. I could have every color of this blouse from chartreuse to creme caramel, who could resist! The floral stone bib necklace is so beautiful and validates my continued love for giant gems!

I was so excited for Talbot's Spring and was even more thrilled with Julianne Moore as the "face". Do you love the line? How about Talbot's picking Julianne Moore? It seems to be a trend with such pairings including J. Crew and Lauren Hutton, Ann Taylor and Katie Holmes...does this help the brands?

One last item on my wish list - I love this poplin full skirt and the chartreuse is growing on me for Spring, like pretty forsythia or Summer's yarrow. It has kind of a retro 50's appeal to me, but very feminine and a nice diversion from the pencil skirts at least in my wardrobe which are taking over. The skirt also comes in Geraneum, Marzipan, Sweet Almond and Black. It is priced at $79.50, so a pretty reasonable price point given it's Talbot's and sure to last a few seasons at least.

More Stripes from J. Crew and I Love It! Reviewing the Maritime dress...

I don't want to jinx a good thing, but I am loving the stripes that J. Crew continues to weave into their items. I certainly hope this does not turn into the ruffles and sequins repetition! I just picked up the Maritime dress at the B&M to which the salesperson said had been one of the most requested items for Spring. The sail blue is so pretty and is a perfect length to go as a belted dress or very long tunic.

It is super soft for sure. I would describe it as "easy" fit, but not "elegant" as JC describes. It is a thick, soft, sweatshirt-like well, sweatshirt! Sometimes I wish they would just call it like it is instead of overglamour-izing! The price is pretty right at $78 and finally gave me a reason to spend my rewards dollars before they expire mid-March.

A Little Crewzy for Eileen Fisher's Spring 2011 Preview!

Last Spring, Eileen Fisher's pieces caught my eye and I had purchased one in particular. The crinkled cotton/steel trench made me fall in head over heels in love with the line. I love the simplicity, but was actually initially attracted to this jacket because it was something I had not seen in the way of a traditional trench before. Not only from a textural standpoint, but the actual way it fit my body was so feminine. I get more complements on this pretty little tie-coat than just about any Spring jacket I wear. It has a subtle shimmer which the picture does not do justice.

The Spring 2011 preview is up on EF's site and is absolutely beautiful with bursts of color. I love the masculine military green color represented through a feminine little dress. I also love that autumnal burnt orange which can represent Spring just like Fall but lighter, airier.

I think the unexpected is what draws me to the pieces. The steely grays remind me of Spring storms and love the infinity linen wrap in the bright mustard which pops like a different daffodil. I think the draping is prettier than usual. I also love how EF continues to use a blend of ages and ethnicities with the models used in their campaigns. There is a sense of empowerment that comes with this line.

I adore the Cascading jacket in linen viscose stretch (left). The draping is so pretty and love the belted look. This could easily be a jacket or a modern blazer which is the beauty of Eileen Fisher in my opinion. The simplicity matched with a subtle line make each piece a classic with a stroke of modernity.

I can't help but yearn for Spring with colors like lemongrass, rhubarb (in cashmere sweater to the right), dapple and dark pearl. The fabrics range from cashmere, organic cotton, silk georgette crepe to linen and are those that grace our skin Spring into Summer.

Crew's Spring Collection for 2011(vogue.com) actually posted back in November (2010), but worth sharing to ignite a passion for Spring...I think I am more than a little bit ready! Let me just say that I love the "Lauren Hutton-esque" open blouse and exaggerated wide-legged pant (last image). This is a year-round favorite style for me. And believe me if I had a place to wear the long sequin skirt, I probably would! I am so loving any shade of blue this Spring whether it be denim/chambray, baby blue, cobalt, midnight...that and pale pink are striking my fancy. I am not so much liking the neon pops of color that are popping up now in nearly every Fall show I see as well though it may grow on me for summer, definitely not for Spring. Spring for me is about subtlety and neon pink or bubble bright doesn't appeal to me in a Spring collection. I also like the "disheveled" look every so slightly, but some of these models look as though they have completely rolled out of bed. I like the classic pants and pretty blouses. Some things just never go out of style.

Dazzling neon-pink shorts and tangerine frocks, and washed-out denim shirts that added an air of insouciance to long, pewter sequin skirts. But there was plenty for the anti-sparklers among us. From long, silken, bias-cut dresses under nylon khaki parkas to wide-leg cotton pants and linen shirts in stone, J.Crew has its cross-generational fan base pretty much covered. “That mix of menswear with womenswear, day with evening, is all part of our heritage,” says Lyons. “However it’s done, we always strive for a slightly disheveled look.” So, whichever pieces make your checklist, take your cues from their models and complete the getup with an electric-orange lip and gently tousled updo. -- Esther Adams

And She's Spotted Again...Jenna Lyons (Fashion Week Parties: Boy's Night)

Thank you again vogue.com under your Parties section where so many great photos are captured making me feel almost as if I am there (well, almost!)...lucky for me I can enjoy in the comfort of my favorite jams with a glass of wine!

Joseph Altuzarra and Jenna Lyons at La Esquina - once again, love the glasses and she can definitely carry off "one of the boy's" goes girly! I just LOVE the tangerine clutch she is carrying and that she can pull off a casual chic look that is clearly pretty effortless.

First up on the itinerary was the intimate friends-and-family dinner Joseph Altuzarra held at La Esquina. The guests, who included Jenna Lyons, Amanda Brooks, Mark Holgate,and the designers from Current Elliot (they are working on a collaboration with Altuzarra for fall) were greeted in the kitchen by owner Derek Sanders and ushered downstairs for fish tacos and margaritas with Joseph's family, including his brother and ultra-chic mom.

In SoHo, Prabal Gurung threw what turned out to be a major dance party—thanks to an amazing DJ—at the newly opened SoHo Mondrian. Champagne flowed as guests Monique Péan, model Joan Smalls, Barbara Bush, and Maggie Betts toasted the designer's amazing collection (who didn't love, love, love Karlie in that ravishing red dress?) and danced with him until the wee hours of the night.

Lastly, Zac Posen and Purple magazine stormed The Standard and threw a wall-to-wall party that stretched from Le Bain to the Boom Boom Room—all in honor of the designer's latest line, Z Spoke. If you could make your way through the madness, you would have spottedAlexander Wang breaking it down on the dance floor and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsentucked in a corner, as well as Kanye West and Jason Wu."

Valentine's Day with Victoria's Secret...Love is Really in the Air!

Whether you have a significant other or not, Victoria's Secret can make you feel very special on this coming day of hearts and love. I was out shopping last night and thought, this will be just what I need to lift my spirits for Valentine's Day and managed to pick up some things that reflect love all around.

First of all, the VS stores are just bustling right now with couples shopping for little romantic items. There was a whole different set of teens running between Pink and VS for makeup and panties too small for my liking anymore! And there were just lots of women like me, maybe married or single but out to pick up some pretty things and somehow the fact that Valentine's day is around the corner made it seem all the more justifiable.

The stores are warm and all aglow with reds and pink merchandise and lots of Valentine printed items as well. The beauty items are beautifully packaged with red bows and so inviting I don't know how anyone could leave the store without something in hand.

I set out just to get a couple items and must tell you it is the perfect pick me up. Shopping at VS is an intimate experience and so I personally prefer to mill through the store without the girls half my age pushing to assist me, but happy nonetheless to see so many pretty items begging me to buy them.

I loved all the sets with pink and with prints that seemed to scream Valentine's day and ended up buying a pretty full coverage bra with a pretty print. Of course there were matching panties everywhere and while I did not indulge in the "5" for anything, I did walk away with a cute Valentine's panty that felt so made for me!

So it wouldn't be Valentine's day without purchasing something that smelled lovely and have to tell you that I am a fanatic for absolutely all of VS's body dusting powders. I don't know about you but it is hard to find dusting powder in general and VS has been carrying the most pretty, lightly shimmery powders that I wear every day. It is that special something you can do for yourself each morning and I love how it never clashes with any of my perfumes. I bought the Bombshell luminous body powder. It smells so phenomenal with peony and vanilla orchid and the shimmer is just gorgeous. Of course, the pretty white duster with black ribbon encased in a pink striped box helped my purchase as well! I am hooked for sure.

The best part of all was that I received a beautifully packed box of Godiva chocolates with my purchase specially merchandised with Victoria's Secret pink and red signature stripes and their logo! This made my experience even better.

I loved the whole night there and walked away feeling a little Valentine's spirit, well a lot quite frankly! Victorias's Secret has made their mark around this holiday for sure.

Talbot's Has Perfected the "(Un)suit" with Versatile Pieces That Go Day to Night...

Talbot's has perfected the (un)suit with suiting separates to update and beautify any woman's wardrobe. And as always, I love that Talbot's creates for a real woman with many options for shapes and sizing. Their approach to fitting through an updated angle to "fit" on jackets is a great example of this and the (un)suit options align to this concept as well. I love that these pieces are feminine and beautiful, but easy to wear day into night!

Talbot's new Yvette tweed media dress is a perfect example of their "unsuit" options that provide classic and modern in several beautiful options. This beautiful tweed also comes in their "Grace" fit jacket, so if you prefer a jacket that can be worn with many things, this is the one and quite a versatile piece into Spring. Talbot's Grace fit Yvette tweed jacket would be a great choice to polish off this dress or can be worn with other (un)suiting separates across the line.

My other favorite versatile line includes the "fluid crepe" pieces which come in a real jet black. I bought the Jackie fit fluid crepe boyfriend jacket and the Heritage fit fluid crepe wide-legged pants. These pieces are effortless yet timely and sure to stick in my wardrobe for many years to come.

If you prefer something a bit more feminine and off the beaten path of the "boyfriend" style jacket, there is an equally beautiful Jackie fit cocktail jacket in the same line. I love this one in particular because it can easily dress up a pair of jeans or truly go into the cocktail hour paired with any one of these fluid crepe options. The fluid crepe sheath dress is a great example. This sheath has a stunning line and equally beautiful belted as shown.

The double weave crepe sheath offers a straighter line if "fluid" is not what you see.

Also, if you want to venture away from the more traditional wide-legged suit pant, the fluid crepe crops are a perfect option (shown left).

The fabrics are so comfortable and beautifully blended so they are literally "wrinkle-proof" and if you travel, this is certainly a must. I never thought I would preview to "black" separates, but the Talbot's "(un)suit" approach is so much more and with so many options, a wardrobe could be easily updated.

On an accessorie side note, I am really wanting to get the bead flower cuff in this beautiful steely gray. I think this is a fabulous transitional piece of jewelry and would look amazing with any of this (un)suiting!
